Children and older adults in supervised care often receive oversight only during scheduled visits. Between those visits, signs of harm, neglect, or deterioration can go unnoticed. Limited resources make it impossible for case workers and care managers to be everywhere at once.That's why we're developing Visible: a simple wellbeing check-in system that helps identify early warning signs before they become crises
Visible combines AI-powered face and voice analysis with human oversight to provide greater visibility into wellbeing between routine visits and help professionals focus attention where it is needed most.With Visible, care managers can:
Create Consistent Check-ins: Establish simple, low-burden wellbeing check-ins between scheduled visits.
Identify Early Warning Signs: Detect meaningful changes that may indicate increased risk or declining wellbeing (i.e., sudden weight loss, bruising, anxiety, emotional withdrawal).
Support Human Decision Making: Provide care managers and oversight organizations with information that helps guide follow-up and review.
How Visible Works
A Simple Structured Check-In
Visible makes wellbeing check-ins easy to complete in homes, foster placements, residential settings, and care facilities.Using a tablet device, a child or older adult participates in a short Q&A with our check-in companion, called Lumi. The participant can sit comfortably in front of the device while Lumi guides the interaction and captures facial photos and voice samples for analysis. When assistance is needed, a caregiver can help facilitate the check-in.
Lumi provides simple visual and audio instructions that help ensure face and voice data are captured consistently from one check-in to the next. Integrated lighting, guided positioning, and automated quality checks help create reliable, repeatable measurements regardless of the surrounding environment.
That consistency allows the system to compare each check-in against the individual's historical baseline and identify meaningful changes over time.
Guided Participation: Lead participants through a simple conversation and capture process.
Analyze Face and Voice Signals: Measure changes in appearance, expression, speech patterns, and vocal characteristics.
Track Longitudinal Change: Compare each check-in against prior observations to identify trends and sudden deviations from baseline (i.e declining hygine, sudden wight loss, brusing, emotional withdrawl)

Visible is not an always-on monitoring system.Instead, it relies on brief, structured check-ins designed to provide visibility while respecting privacy and dignity. The device is used only during these scheduled moments and can be turned off and stored away afterward, rather than remaining continuously active in the background.
Visible's primary purpose is to extract meaningful signals from face and voice data, not to create a permanent archive of images and recordings. The system converts images and audio into numerical representations and derived measurements that can be compared over time, while the source media can be deleted. This approach reduces privacy risk while preserving the information needed to detect meaningful changes.Most importantly, Visible supports human judgment rather than replacing it. It provides early warning signals that can surface potential concerns, while trained professionals determine appropriate next steps.
No Surveillance: Visible is not an always-on device. Check-ins occur only at scheduled times, after which the device can be turned off and stored away.
Built-in Privacy Protection: Images and audio are converted into encrypted mathematical representations and measurements used for analysis, reducing the need to retain sensitive raw media.
